GLOBAL TERRORISM

Terrorism means causing terror by using force or making known that one will cause harm. So terrorism is the use of violent force especially to bring about political change. To elaborate this we can say that systematic use of terror in a variety ways as means to gain the desired ends by using force is terrorism. This creates fear and panic all-around so that even the high and mighty also sometimes loses their nerve in the force of it.

In recent years life has become insecure because of terrorism throughout the world. Hence global terrorism is assuming menacing proportions with each passing day. Terrorist is a person who supports or takes part in acts of terrorism. The Governments in various countries are facing problems because of the terrorists and their acts but are unable to combat them fully. They are helpless in meeting the growing challenge posed by global terrorism.

One may suddenly meet one’s sad end in a plane crash or while delivering speech to canvas votes. Human bombs are there to will of even great leaders who one under protective forces. Terrorists plant a bomb or throw a country bomb or time bomb and electronically operated bombs to terrorist people. In most of the incidents poor, innocent citizens meet their end. These acts are considered as a soft target from the point of view of the terrorists.

THE MOBILE FAD

Nothing else can comfort my mind of flatter my wits than the hope that a young modern man spares a few moments to listen to my talk after switching off his mobile for a while. I don’t want to be cynical about the use of cell phones. Much can be said about the amazing power of this little gadget. Till recently communication through telephone was beyond the reach of millions of Indians. With the coming of public booths, local calls were within the reach of the common man. Even then long distance calls cost quite above the means of many a caller. It is true that this mew gadget has blasted all records of technological feats.

I need not go into the details of the amazing patterns of operation that the mobile now offers. A touch here and a touch there, brings you a message, a colorful snap, a ringing tone and a host of information. No wonder the mobile is more of a multipurpose gadget than a means of communication.

What was said about the menace of E-games applies much to the mobile. I want to confine the observations only to the handling of it by our young friends. At first this new marvel of a mobile, was just a fancy for any user, leave alone our teens. The advent of improved models with multiple devices has drawn them to grab these little ones. Competition among the several brands has resulted in getting the mobile within their reach.

HEALTH TIPS - PAIN CONTROL

Some pain or other affects everyone one day or other. So it is necessary to know about different kinds of pains and how to control them. Pain in the fifth vital sign along with pulse, blood pressure, respiratory and temperature. Many people do not complain of pain as they think it is a sign of weakness. Many senior citizens have multiple medical problems. They won’t be in a position to tell about their properly. Hence, the doctor has to evaluate the area of reported pain. He has to examine another system too. Ageing is naturally followed by physiological charges. Gastric glands too adversely affect drug sensitivity. There is also some loss in nerve cells. In old people the most common regions of pain are the skin and joints. Cancer is also a cause of pain. Acute pain begins suddenly. A chronic disorder is the cause for chronic pain. The pain lasts longer than expected. This lead to sleep disturbance Neuropathy pain tends to follow the disturbances of a neural pathway. The ‘Visual analogue scale’ is used to assess the pain. Most aged patients are able to respond correctly to their pain scale. There are a few pain clinics in India now. We have to consult our family doctor, pain practitioner and family to decide where the ward to stay. There are many pain killers available with the druggists. It is better to buy medicine with the doctor’s prescription. Paracetamol is well known one. Besides, aspirin and sodium are effective when inflammation is the cause to pain. Sometimes without medication physical thereby techniques are also used to relieve pain. Physical activity also can help to relieve headache, back pain and joint pain. Consult a good trainer for the exercises. At the same time more exercise will do harmful.

Departmental organizations

Departmental organizations are the enterprises managed, controlled and wholly financed by the government with a ministry at the top. The business affairs are subjected to strict government budgeting, accounting and auditing. The finance is provided by the government and the management is in the hands of civil servants. The ministry is the ultimate in charge of the enterprise. Departmental undertakings are wholly dependents on government for finance.

The merits of the Departmental organizations area as follows:

The control over the enterprise is direct and absolute. The government can regulate the working of these units in a proper way. As the civil servants manage them, they will work sincerely and efficiently for the success of the units. As all these enterprises sum on commercial lines, the revenue directly go to the government. These help in implementing government to every part of the organization. The ministry is responsible to answer to the parliaments for the operations of the undertaking. The downward delegation of authority is effected from the top executive to every part of the organization.

MONEY AND MAN

Money had no value today. But it had real value in those days. Besides, money was not must then. Now money is essential. Without money man cannot survive today. We buy and sell things by using money only. In olden days there was barter system (i.e.) the exchange of goods for other goods, instead of money. Even today in export and import business barter system is used.

Bank notes and coins for which things are which things are sold and with which things are bought is called money. Money box is a locked-box in which to save or collect coins, which can be put in through a narrow hole. New we can send money through an order to a post office for money to be paid to a named person. Nowadays there are many ways to send money.

Without money nothing can be done today in this world. So, Tiruvalluvar said this world has got nothing for a person who has no money and without God’s grace there is nothing in the upper world or heaven. But this money makes the people greedy. One doesn’t know how much money he needs for a contended life. Money is a piece of stamped metal or a currency note used in commercial transactions.

To be kind means to help

To be kind means to help and comfort the man in distress without any thought of earthly gain in return. It is said that empty words don’t buy parsnips. Don’t just utter kindly words but continue to act effectively. I know my former colleague’s method of helping poor college students whose fees were paid by him for three years without any one knowing it.

If any service is rendered there should not be any publicity about it. Those who render social service in the name of an institution somehow don’t establish rapport with the colleague mentioned above. He used to say that any act of kindness when institutionalized would only mar the very purpose.

A Good Samaritan came across my son who fell unconscious being knocked off by a speeding vehicle. That gentleman got my son admitted in a hospital without revealing his identity. The doctor contacted me over phone and we rushed to the hospital where my son was treated. He recovered in 2 or 3 days. I am yet to trace that kind soul and thank him. Such an act of kindness is rare these days.

We May come across the aged suffering. We should not grieve the careworn heart by some harsh words. At least speak to them gently. They may smile or rave, but don’t sit in judgment over their actions. It should be the duty of right thinking kindly do-gooder to win back the erring suffering man to your fold. The joy that you get by being kind to a sufferer is that to be felt and experienced by you. It has no parallel. The wrong doer is a wrong doer made, having reached that low level by the force of circumstances or by poverty or by the weakness of mind. Lend to him your soothing hand and there all your honour lies.

HABITS

A piece of sandal wood-the more we rub it the more recent does it yield. Similarly sugarcane a plant, the more it is crushed the more juice does it produce. Tiruvalluvar, a great ancient Tamil poet says “A neighborhood tree bearing edible fruits is a treat to all. Likewise wealth with hands of kind hearted man will be useful to all”. “The wealth in the trust of the worthy people is a wholesome medicinal tree of lasting benefits”.

So the man should learn but earning by toil is to deploy material wealth and efforts in service to society is the better gain to seek in life for a man. So man lives a full life in compatible social service. Life itself is profitable to a man who lives for others. Those who live for the sake of friends or a stranger will assumedly well forever in a world of bliss. Tiruvalluvar says “Achieve fame and glory in whatever you touch or else leave worldly life totally untouched”. He adds that contributing to the needy, band living in harmony with nature are gains in life’s break.

SPREADING GREENERY

Greenery means vegetation. Green grass land is a meadow. In villages we can see green fields because of the fertile crop. A place with trees of green leaves, grassy place, fertile fields are beautiful to look at. So it is said that a thing of beauty is a joy for ever. But when there is no rain it is rather difficult to see green grass or leaves of crops. So rain is quite essential not only for drinking water, but also for irrigation and for cleaning. When there is no rain, the water level in the ground goes deep. To get rain green forests are necessary. We know that water in the sea is drying by the sun becomes a vapour then changes into clouds. When there come black clouds which are changed into rain by cold wind from the forests. So we must realize that we have to get more green forests in our place. So we should not cut trees without any limit and even if we are forced to cut a tree we must grow ten trees in the place of one. Then the greenery will be maintained. Tropical forests are called evergreen forests as they get heavy rain. There are various forests. But nowadays the forest areas are diminishing. Hence rainfall is also lessening which leads to famine. To grow more food, more irrigation facilities are growing day by day. Dams, canals are spreading every where. These help to grow food. All these work are one under green revolution.
